This month’s BizAtomic success story is MelindaLee.com. Melinda Lee is a very popular radio host in California . Having interviewed Melinda for this story I understand the reason for her popularity. She is smart, warm, friendly and loves to talk about her subject. Her audience feels like they know her. She is their friend and part of their community.
Melinda’s show is about Food and Cooking, not about recipes. Of course you can get many great recipes from Melinda’s website but there’s a lot more to food and cooking than recipes. Melinda helps her audience learn how to make something. Not what to do when cooking but how to do it. She helps her audience understand why things cooking related are done the way they are. Did you ever think about how a pop-up thermometer works? Melinda is on KNX1070 news radio in Los Angeles , Saturday and Sunday, 8am to noon . If you are in the area tune in.
About four years ago there was a change in the radio business. The Internet was beginning to have a real impact on radio. Melinda was corresponding with her audience by regular mail and soon realized snail mail was going down and email was going up. Melinda knew her audience was using the internet so she would send material about her show to the stations webmaster and hope her information would get posted. She was constantly kissing up to get what she needed. Melinda realized there were many other things she could do with a website of her own.
She began searching for someone to build her website. She soon realized many companies would tell her they could figure out what she wanted to do. She was concerned that they would be learning on her nickel. She developed a vetting process to ensure that whomever she chose had a strong system and had already figured out how things should be done and could deliver exactly what she wanted. What she wanted was a balance between design capabilities and technical expertise.
It was important that the company she chose could translate her design concepts into the language of the web. She knew what she wanted but felt it was important that the web design company could suggests ways to improve on her ideas. She wanted her vendor to feel her business was important. Melinda told me, “BizAtomic did what they said they would do, on time and on budget and have kept my website on the air nonstop. BizAtomic proved to be exactly what I was looking for. My website is an extension of my business. It is an important branding tool, a resource for my audience and helps me hold my audience,” she said.
You can find the following comment on Melinda Lee’s website andBizAtomic didn’t pay her to put it there. “BizAtomic provides an amazing, and complete, array of Internet solutions. If you decide to build a website be sure to check out BizAtomic. Working with the artists, technical, sales and other support people at BizAtomic has been and continues to be a positive and productive experience for me.”
